The Coaches' Corner

Understanding the complex phenomena of coaching and teaching through reflections, experiences and literature

Author: mwthompson91

Welcome to The Coaches' Corner! The 'Coaches Corner' has been up and running now since 2014 and has a growing Twitter base of over 3500 followers. It's social media presence continues to expand with articles regularly featuring on the Independent Coach Education Newsletter, NLP Coaching Daily, Coach Logic, The Coaching Network, PitchVision Academy and UK Coaching's social media platform 'Connected Coaches'. More recently one article featured in UK Coaching's 50th Issue of the 'Coaching Edge' journal, alongside articles from Scottish Rugby's Head Coach Gregor Townsend, British Judo and British Snowsport; and another article in the ECB's Elite Coaching Department's Quarterly Magazine 'Inside Edge'. Whilst article writing remains a hobby for now, the intention is to publish a quarterly coaching journal to subscribers and followers featuring coaching tips, career opportunities, and interviews with players and coaches from international and elite sport, to grassroots sport to benefit coaches across the profession. If you think you could be of assistance in any way, shape or form then please contact me on the address below. For now, take your pick of articles on display and I hope they are to your interest. A little bit about myself - I graduated from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2010 with a first class degree in Sports Coaching, before working at the world class Millfield School, predominantly coaching Cricket and Football in addition to teaching Physical Education. In 2014 I returned to Cardiff Met to complete a PGCE in secondary Physical Education, whilst overseeing the University Cricket programme as Performance Director, and lecturing on the Performance Sport and Coaching Science pathways. After re-joining the cricket coaching staff at Millfield for a second time, I am now find myself based at Glamorgan County Cricket Club's Sophia Gardens as Talent Programme Manager for Cricket Wales, tasked with nurturing the country's exciting young cricketers from a performance and athletic development perspective. This comes on top of completing my postgraduate Masters study in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy. They say you learn from seeing the every best in action, so I consider myself extremely fortunate to have worked with some world class coaching practitioners, teachers and athletes in my career to date, and have a huge interest in learning from others, coaching across a variety of spectrums and searching for ways to enhance performance, and personal development. All views on the blog are my own, and will happily welcome any comments or feedback. Should you wish to get in touch to discuss anything privately you can find me at: m.thompson.uwic@me.com Matt
